MADD Drunk Driving Stat Summary

•  National News     updated  2009/08/01 09:40

According to MADD's official website, here are some drunk driving statistics from the third quarter in 2008.

In 2007, an estimated 12,998 people died in drunk driving related crashes — a decline of
3.7 percent from the 13,491 drunk driving related fatalities of 2006.

On average someone is killed by a drunk driver every 40 minutes.

In 2001, more than half a million people were injured in crashes where police reported
that alcohol was present — an average of one person injured almost every minute.

About three in every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some
time in their lives.
