A man convicted of three murders in Illinois was charged Wednesday with the killings of five Southern California women in cases dating to the mid-1980s.
Orange County prosecutors accused Andrew Urdiales, 45, of murders in Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties. He was a Marine stationed in Southern California from April 1984 to April 1991.
In 2004 he was sentenced to death by a jury in Livingston County, Ill., for the 1996 murder of Cassandra Corum of Hammond, Ind. That made him the first person sent back to Death Row in Illinois after being spared by former Gov. George Ryan's mass commutation in 2003.
