The president of the Rhode Island Bar Association who resigned from the position a week ago is facing multiple lawsuits.
The Providence Journal reports that 56-year-old Richard Pacia has three ongoing malpractice lawsuits against him and at least two claims that he failed to repay real estate and business loans.
One claim was filed by a Jamestown couple in their late 70s who say Pacia has not paid back more than $70,000 he borrowed from them. The couple has a lien on Pacia's home.
When the bar association announced his abrupt resignation, it said Pacia was leaving for "personal and professional reasons that require his full-time attention."
Pacia has not returned several calls for comment. An attorney representing him said he had advised Pacia not to discuss pending litigation.
